I recently watched a reel of Simon Crompton of PS renown modeling a new chunky cardigan sweater. He mentions that he wears jeans a lot these days and liked how the colorway went with light and medium washes. It got me thinking.
I’ve been wearing jeans around the house lately. All dark washes or even raw denim. I tend to wear them doing chores — cooking, taking out recycling, leaf blowing the porches and sidewalks, that sort of thing — with a Barbour vest and sweater. I guess I feel that they are most suited to activities that might end up with me chucking them into the wash.
But today I was running errands, so I dressed in trousers, suede loafers, a shirt, sweater and a Barbour gilet (which wasn’t enough given the gale force winds.) This time, when I returned home, I didn’t automatically change into something else. I didn’t want to. Which made me realize that I quite like being dressed like this, even if there is no “occasion” involved. At 58 years of age, it feels appropriate to be the grown-up in the room. Every once in a while at least.
Now, if you’ll excuse me, it’s time for “Exploring Music with Bill McGlaughlin.”

SO good to see a post from you! And I totally agree at 65 and in my first year of retirement.
