I caught part of the Doors movie last evening. Not a great flick, no, but the acting is amazing. Val Kilmer does a very convincing Jim Morrison and supposedly sang the songs himself.
So, in the spirit of a light Friday and in anticipation of tonight’s gala dinner dance (Mrs. E.’s school turns 100), I thought that I’d write a little ditty based on one of The Doors’ first hits. In my movie, the lead singer would be played by Mr. Bryan Ferry.
Yes, I’m a black tie man
I’m a black tie man
Most men don’t know
what the women understand
Excuse me, but while you’re watching TV
I’m out dancing with a girl who’s a dream
Because I’m a black tie man
Most men don’t know
what the women understand
Join me for dinner?
We’ll start with bellinis
Topped with caviar, more
than any man’s ever seen, yes, yes
I’m a black tie man
Most men don’t know
But the women understand
I’m a black tie man
I’m a black tie man
Hello darling, I’m your black tie man
Most men don’t know
but the women understand.
lovely.
Chris, that was truly a creative change you made in that song. ” I’m a back door man” was big when I was in high school, but now I will remember it as “I’m a black tie man”. Good for you.
I think this will be the year that I buy a nice tux so that I will never have to rent one again.
Grew up listening to The Doors, and I like your song better! Every man needs his own formal attire, at least the basics. At the very least, own the shirt and bow tie and shoes. Congratulations on the 100th anniversary–what a festive event!
More Brian Ferry!
