Quirky Tag

Monday, October 13th, 2008

Feeling a bit under the weather, so my posts may be a bit sporadic at the beginning of the week.

Mrs. PvE was kind enough to enlist my aid and tagged me with a most unusual request. Here are the rules of the game:

1. Link to the person who tagged you.
2. Mention the rules.
3. Tell six quirky yet boring, unspectacular details about yourself.
4. Tag six other bloggers by linking to them.
5. Go to each person’s blog and leave them a comment so they know they’ve been tagged.

First things first.

1. I am phone phobic.

2. I change clothes at least twice a day; and I work at home.

3. This year is my 20th college reunion. I won’t attend, again.

4. I can’t get rid of books, no matter how uninterested in them I may be.

5. I don’t like the gym, but don’t mind exercise.

6. I love my iPod, but never listen to it.

I’ll get around to asking a few others for help in a bit. I’m off for a nap. Cleaning house whilst ill has taken it out of me for today.

Think Pink

Wednesday, October 1st, 2008

I believe that there will be a cure for some kind of cancer within my lifetime. As a two time survivor, I can tell you that early detection means a longer life. It was an article in GQ, believe it or not, that got me thinking I might be really sick.

Sometimes the information you need turns up in the strangest places.

Today is the start of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Statistics say that 1 in 8 women will get the disease. And lest you think that this is a woman’s issue, I will tell you that whole families are impacted by cancer, wherever and in whomever a tumour is found.

But together, we will make a difference.

If you have a loved one or friend who is fighting against the disease, let them know that you’ve got their back so that they can continue to fight to the front with everything they’ve got.

Get checked by a doctor. Do not delay.

Talk to your children.

Remind your friends.

Share your story.

Raise awareness, even if it’s just by wearing a bit of pink today.

Framed: Places Everyone!

Friday, September 12th, 2008

I like place cards, do you? Elegantly scripted or whimsically illustrated, they add charm tot he table and a sense of occasion.

Next dinner party, why don’t you try this? A friend of ours threw a birthday dinner for her husband. He is fond of wearing bowties. That’s my place card above. Each of us had one, nicely and inexpensively framed, beckoning us to our seats. Which, given the amount of scotch consumed, was a very good idea. They were beacons in the haze.

The hostess couldn’t really draw or paint, so she found pictures of a bunch of different bowties on the internet, printed them out and framed them in Indian silver frames purchased at the Dollar Store. Perfect. If you can sketch or watercolour, so much the better!

Easy and elegant. My kind of detail.
