The colours of summer are often very vibrant, especially here in the South where Lily Pulitzer pops out all over once the temperatures top 80ºF. The other day, amidst the rainbow-hued shoppers and ladies who lunch, in walked a woman dressed simply, and in my view perfectly, for the weather. She wore a classic white t-shirt and khaki cropped trousers with either a sandal (not, and I stress this, a pair of flip-flops) or flat, that part I can’t recall. It is rude for a gentleman to stare too long, after all.
Here’s the Perfect Fit T from J Crew with an interesting sleeve detail. On sale now for about USD$20. Click the photo to go.
And Banana Republic’s version, about USD$20 (30% off right now….)
The trick to the t-shirt is to make sure that it is thick enough so that your foundation garments don’t show through.
Capris work best without extraneous bells and whistles, or pockets and pullcords. Simple. Think Jackie O. These are from Ann Taylor (on sale for about USD$60). All colours of khaki are fair game.
A great pair of oversized sunglasses, neutral shoulder bag and you’re ready to go smart and casual.

Cropped pants. They look good on no one when they are just above the ankle and below the calf. See the photo you posted for proof.
Now if they hit a women just above the calf you have a completely different, and happier, story.
…and topped off with a Panama hat.
